The pink city of Jaipur has many beautiful historical monuments that attract tourists in droves each year. Every historical place has a story as beautiful as the monument itself. Hundreds of years of history and culture is on display at these places. All these monuments have stood the test of time and they are a perfect showcase of our glorious past.

Apart from being key tourist destinations they are symbols of our civilizations rich heritage and culture and the capabilities they had while designing these magnificent structures without modern equipment or machinery. They are symbols of our historic greatness and something future generations can be proud of. However, wear and tear by time and other natural reasons does take its toll on many of these monuments. For these monuments to stand for another century and delight many more generations to come it is vital to pay attention to their upkeep and restoration.

The KGK Group, which began its journey from the beautiful and historical city of Jaipur understands this and sees it as its duty to give back to the city where the group’s magnificent journey started. One of the most charming monuments in Jaipur city is the Jal Mahal. Built during the Mughal-era, this palace stands in the centre of the lake and is among the first few gorgeous sites that greet the eyes when one drive into Jaipur from the Delhi.

In 2005, the restoration work of the monument began and the task was daunting. The lake, on which the palace stands, was an environmental disaster and the palace was slowly deteriorating into a ruin. The migratory birds that used to flock to the lake started avoiding the area and it was overall a sad picture.

KGK Group took up the task of restoring the palace and got numerous international experts, traditional master craftsmen, architects, historians and authorities on art, culture and design involved in this challenging project. Given the historic importance of the place, every little detail was studied carefully and the place was restored keeping its original beauty intact.

But it was not enough to just restore the palace, even the lake on which it stood underwent a massive transformation. All the drains that were flowing into it were diverted and two million tonnes of toxic silt dredged away. After the addition of a water treatment system a lot of local vegetation and fish have flourished. This improvement in the environment has brought back the migratory birds to the surrounding wetlands.

The Jal Mahal is now a sight to behold and it continues to charm tourists who come from all parts of the globe to enjoy its beauty and history.
