The KGK Group recently opened a 1,555 sq. m. high-tech diamond-cutting and polishing factory in Vladivostok, Russia. Honourable Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin inaugurated the diamond factory in the presence of Senior Management of Alrosa, representatives of the Russian government, stakeholders of Russia’s diamond industry and KGK officials.
KGK’s leading edge diamond manufacturing unit in Vladivostok, Russia is the first of its scale in Eastern Russia. It incorporates the latest and top-of-the-line diamond-cutting and polishing infrastructure, with the capacity to manufacture 150,000 carats of diamonds each year. This operation unit will provide employment to 400 people.
KGK is investing RUB 2.8 billion (US $48.6 million) in this unit, which is another milestone in the group’s global manufacturing operations spread across India, South Africa, Russia, Botswana and Namibia.
The group saw immense potential in the far eastern region of Russia and now plans to turn it into an outstanding hub for the diamond and jewellery business. Some of the group’s clients from Asia Pacific have shown interest in the region.
The group has received incredible cooperation from the Russian government in setting up the unit in Vladivostok and has also signed a long-term contract with Alrosa for rough supply. It has also signed cooperation agreements with the governor of Vladivostok and VTB Bank.
Primorsky Territory Vice-Governor Mr.EvgenyPolyansky, Alrosa President Mr. Sergey Ivanov, Alrosa Vice-President Mr. Yuri K Okoyomov, Sr. management team of VTB, Rosbank, PING An Bank, NGTC and ABN Amro along with Sr. officials of the Russian government graced the launch ceremony of KGK’s new unit, marking their cooperation with the brand.
